Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) is a collective term that covers all non-physical creations/research results to which rights may be attached. Physical material produced during research activity at the university is also included in the guidelines.
The purpose of these guidelines is to clarify the employer's right to work results, that the employee creates or develops in connection with his/her position at NMBU.The employer acquires ownership rights to all work results and rights that the employee creates or develops in connection with his/her position at NMBU. However, the employer does not assume ownership rights to personal teaching material and traditional academic works unless otherwise agreed.
The employee is obligated to report to the employer all work results that may have a commercial value.
The guidelines' purpose is to regulate distribution of income between the innovator, the faculty at NMBU and the central office at NMBU when the commercial exploitation of the invention provides net income. When NMBU has taken over the rights to commercial exploitation of the invention from the innovator, the first NOK 100,000 shall go to the innovator. Thereafter, the net income must be divided into three equal parts to the innovator, the faculty at NMBU and the central office at NMBU.
Ard Innovation (NMBU Technology Transfer Office) has the management responsibility for IPR. Ard Innovation must receive reporting of work results that may have commercial value pursuant to "Guidelines relating to the employer's rights to work results".
