The student card and the app: "Studentbevis" - your digital student ID
The student ID card
Digital students do not require the physical student card. However, you have to access the web page service available for producing the student cards in order to have your profile picture added to the student ID app.
You must first activate your NMBU user account to order a student card. You can upload your photo and order your card by logging in to fotoboks.nmbu.no.
User manual for ordering student card can be found in NMBUhjelp.
Pick up point must be selected even if your are a digital student: Select the pick-up point "I do not need a accesscard".
The profile picture you have uploaded to the student card order will then be added to the student ID app.
The student ID app
The student ID app works as a student ID at, among others, the student welfare organisations and public transport companies (e.g. VY and Ruter), and will be valid in the same way as the study card and paper receipt.
If you are a student at multiple institutions, you need to select the institution to which you have paid the semester fee when you log on to the student ID app.
How to log in to the student ID app for the first time?
- Open the app (requires internet access).
- Choose which educational institution you belong to.
- Log in with the username and password at this educational institution.
- Read the declaration of consent and accept (the app can only be used if you give your consent).
- Read the terms and agree (the app can only be used if you accept the terms).
- The app shows the photo that was uploaded to the student card order web page. If the app does not display photo, other valid photo ID must be displayed upon inspection for the app to be golden as a student ID.
- If you have paid the semester fee and registered for the semester, this will show in a yellow box at the bottom of the page. The receipt itself is stored in the app, so after logging in and registering the paid semester fee in the app, it can be used without internet access.
Students who do not have a smartphone
If you do not have a smartphone and therefore do not have the opportunity to use the student ID app, you can order a semester receipt on paper. You log in to Studentweb, and from the menu in the upper left corner, select Orders and then Semester receipt. Remember to check that the semester address in StudentWeb is updated first.

Life outside your studies
Student organisations and social life
There are many good reasons to get involved as a student. Surveys related to students' health and well-being show that students who participate actively in the student environment and in voluntary activities are less lonely and feel better at their place of study.
A candidate survey from 2020 shows that 44% of respondents consider that experiences from such activities were useful to a large extent in their first job after graduation. NMBU encourage you to take part in the student community and to get involved!
