About this course

The course gives a basic introduction to Microsoft Excel, an essential computer tool used in business. An important objective of the course is that the students can use Excel in other courses.

Demonstrations and practical exercises in the use of formulas and functions and data tables. Presentation of models using formatting and graphics. Analysis and management of data, including external data, filtering and use of pivot tables.

Demonstrations and practical exercises in making simple financial models. To the extent possible models used will deal with relevant aspects from the first autumn parallel.

Knowledge:

The candidate has:

  • knowledge about the different components of Excel

The candidate can:

  • use the help tool in Excel
  • create, save and open Excel work books
  • input data into cells
  • format cells
  • create formulas and use Excel functions
  • copy data and formulas
  • create graphs and charts in various formats based on numerical data
  • make simple financial models
  • sort and filter data
  • handle data from external sources
  • use excels internal table functionality
  • make PivotTables

Skills:

The candidate can:

  • develop efficient and structured models in Excel
  • work fast with Excel
  • Learning activities

    Live lectures at school. Demonstration of Excel.

    Exercises in the computer lab with teaching assistances.

  • Assessment method
    Final exam (on Campus) entirely done in Excel: 100 % of total grade. Duration 3 hours.

  • Examiner scheme
    External examiner will control the quality of syllabus, questions for the final examination, and principles for the assessment of the examination answers.
  • Mandatory activity
    No compulsory assignments.
  • Teaching hours
    Lectures: 2 hours per week. Excercises: 2 hours per week. Total: Approximately 52 hours.
  • Reduction of credits
    5 ECTS overlap with BUS133F and BUS134-B.
