About this course

The course is built up of relevant concepts and models from economics and political science, as a basis for analysis and discussions of current problems and challenges in the Norwegian agricultural policy and food production system, such as production allocation, income levels, food security, import and trade, and climate challenges.

  • Policy goals and key features of the Norwegian agricultural policy
  • Economic rent, Supply and demand shifters, Pricing of inputs
  • Location and mobility of agricultural resources and inputs
  • Agricultural policy, climate change and food security.

Skills:

  • Describe and analyze consequences for Norwegain agriculture of possible changes in the industry's operating environment, including changes in national agricultural policies and/or international relations and markets.

General competences:

  • Gain a better understanding of how changes in technology, national policies, international agreements, national and international markets may alter a business sector's operating environment.
  • Learning activities

    Lectures, guest lectures, group work and discussions on Zoom, individual literature studies and voluntary colloquium work.

    All teaching will take place on Zoom, and recordings of the lectures will be posted on Canvas.

    ECN110 Microeconomics I - How to Think Like an Economist
  • Assessment method
    Final written in-class examination (3,5 hours) accounts for 100% of the grade.

    Written exam Grading: Letter grades
  • Examiner scheme
    External examiner will control the quality of syllabus, questions for the final examination, and principles for the assessment of the examination answers.
  • Mandatory activity
    Compulsory attendance at the lectures. This can be fulfilled by viewing recordings of the lectures by agreement with the lecturer. Approved compulsory activity is valid until the next time the course is offered.
  • Teaching hours
    In total nine days of lectures and discussions. 3-4 hours per day.
  • Admission requirements
    Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse).
