Coupling MicTherm software with OpenFOAM a CFD engine.

Work entitled: “Coupling the molecular thermodynamics software MicTherm with the OpenFOAM computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulation engine” was presented by Xueqi Zhang from University of Kaiserslautern-Landau one of BatCAT project partners specialising in fluid dynamics.

The presentation took place at Open Innovation (OIP-2024) conference orginised by Fraunhofer-Institut für Techno- und Wirtschaftsmathematik ITWM in Kaiserslautern, Germany on 21-23 October 2024.

Coupling of the molecular thermodynamics software MicTherm with the CFD simulation engine OpenFOAM was used to model thermophysical properties of fluids and mixtures, addressing one of the objectives in BatCAT project to create a digital twin of a novel REDOX-flow batteries type.

This work highlights the interoperability between mesoscopic modelling and macroscopic simulation that are crucial for design of a robust model.
