department of mathematics
The Department of Mathematics is responsible for teaching of NMBU's mathematics courses.
The department doesn't have its own study programme, but serves all study programs at REALTEK with mathematical competence, especially on the teaching side.
Susanne Solem, Ole Løseth Elvetun and Bjørn Fredrik Nielsen do research on the theory of partial differential equations and inverse problems. Typical areas of use are within medicine, such as electrocardiogram (ECG), more general heart modeling and electroencephalography (EEG).
Geir Bogfjellmo, John Wyller and Arkadi Ponossov work on further developing the mathematical theory for dynamic systems. This work is used, among other things, in neuroscience and in the theory of population dynamics, an area where mathematical models are used to study variations within a population over time.
