Department OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT:

We educate creative civil engineers who can solve real technical problems and help ensure that our technology-dependent society develops in a sustainable way.

The department consists of the areas of machine, process and product development, robotics, industrial economics and aquatic engineering. We are approximately 60 people, including fellows and postdocs.

  • Our areas of expertise

The engineering subjects consist of design and dimensioning of components and systems so that the area of use and lifetime are as suitable as possible for the task to be solved. In these courses, students learn methods for hand calculation and computer simulation, as well as the necessary knowledge of production techniques and material use.

Process engineering is the most versatile of the industrial branches in Norway. It includes everything from the modern petroleum industry to waste treatment and the production of food and beverages. In process engineering, you learn about the path from raw material to finished product, how technical equipment is built and works and how complicated industrial processes can be managed and improved with regard to quality, economy and the environment.

Product development is the process by which new products and services are systematically developed. In this subject area, you will learn how we can use innovation to ensure that an idea develops into the most suitable version of a product. You will gain insight into sustainability considerations, functional analysis, gathering feedback, conceptualisation and safety requirements.

Robotics is the study of the design, construction and use of robots. The study emphasizes application areas within agriculture and food production, as well as control systems and the intelligence implemented in the robots.

Industrial economics is a subject that combines technology, economics and administration. In this study program, you learn methods and tools to be able to make well-thought-out strategic and operational decisions in businesses. You will learn practical project management, operational management and quality management.
