Guidelines for examinees - written examinations at NMBU

For all NMBU examinations

  1.  All NMBU exams are conducted in accordance with the Academic regulations at NMBU. The examinee must read the regulations and this instruction before the exam.
  2. The examinee must register for the exam via Studentweb before the registration deadline. Any problems / errors must be reported to the Student Information Center (SiT)  within the registration deadline.
  3. Examinees who needs special arrangements for their exam must apply for this within the deadline - please see the academic calendar.
  4. The examinee must keep himself informed, via Studentweb, about the time and place for his/her exam.
  5. The examinee must via the web based course description control permitted aids for the specific exam and make sure to have these available during the examination. Students are not permitted to borrow or lend aids during the examination.
  6. An answered paper that has been submitted, whether digitally or on paper, cannot be returned or be exempted from assessment. This also applies even if a medical certificate is submitted after the examination.
  7. Communication with fellow students or others during exam is not permitted, unless such communication is stated as a permitted aid in the examination questions or in the course room in Canvas. This applies both to home-examination and campus based examination. 
  8. What applies spesifically to exams on campus or at home is specified below.

  • Examination at Campus
    1. The candidate should be seated in the exam venue no later than 30 minutes before the exam begins, regardless of whether the exam is conducted digitally or on paper.
    2. Should the examinee show up too late or at the wrong room for the exam, the examinee may not be allowed to take the exam at all. 
    3. The examination venues can not be accessed by the examinee prior to examination guards being present.
    4. The examinee must control the permitted aids in the individual course via the online based course description and bring the correct aids for the exam. It is not permitted to borrow aids or other items from fellow students/others during the exam.
    5. The examinee must show valid photo ID (student card / ID card/ Passport / driver's license). Due to the ban of mobile telephones during the exam, digital semester cards cannot be used as valid ID.
    6. Food / drinks, stationery and permitted aids must be brought to the examinee's desk. Sack / handbag, turned off mobile phone and outerwear must be placed at the designated location. Due to the challenges with smart watches, all wristwatches must be placed at the designated location. A clock will be visible in all the examination rooms. 
    7. The examinee may bring: external keyboard / mous (wiered, not wireless), noise-cancelling earplugs without sound or internet access. A bilingual dictionary i.e. from mother tongue to Norwegian or from mother tongue to English may be broght. The dictionary must be free of personal notes. 
    8. The examinee can not bring: extra screen, extra PC, Pad, Kindle or similar, digital notes / digital curriculum or e-books.
    9. There cannot be any form of communication between the examinees or other persons during the exam. If the examinee has questions or needs a short break, he/she must give a signal to the guard.

    Digital eksamen (WISEflow)

    1. In order to complete the exam digitally, the required browser must be downloaded to the computer prior to the exam date. The examinee must also have tested that he / she have access to NMBU's wireless network (Eduroam).
    2. For exams in the digital exam system, the exam answer must be written on a computer. Only drawings and some calculations can be made with pen and paper and uploaded as an attachment to the answer. Handwritten exam answers will usually not be assessed.
    3. The examinee must have access to a PC and internet when completing the exam. 
    4. The examinee must prior to the exam be acquainted  with the system used for digital examination and make sure to control that the PC and network is working properly.  
    5. The examinee must submit the examination answer within the set deadline for submission and make sure that the correct file is submitted!

    Examinations - completed on paper

    1. The examinee will be provided with the examination papers and cover sheet to be used. Only paper provided by the examination guard(s) can be used during the exam.
    2. The examinations must be anonymous and the examinee will be assigned the examinee number to be used on all answer and cover sheets. Make sure that the correct examinee number is used.
    3. The examinee cannot submit his/her answer or submit a blank answer (completed cover sheet only) until 30 minutes after the exam has started.
    4. A ballpoint pen must be used for the examination paper to create a satisfactory carbon copy. Please be aware that if writing on a sheet on top of the carbon copy paper, the writing may transfer to the carbon sheets below. The examinee is responsible for what he / she submits as an answer and that the handwriting is legible.
    5. When the ordinary exam time is out, the examinee has a maximum of 15 minutes to number, apply the examinee number and sort the answer sheets. The examinee is responsible for separating the three-ply exam papers from each other and placing them in the correct covers. If the examinee continues to write on the answer after the examination time is out, this will be regarded as an attempt at cheating.
    6. Any sheets of rough notes may not normally be handed in as part of the examination answer.
    7. When the examinee is ready to submit his/hers answer, a sign must be given to the guard. The examinee stays in his/her place until the answer is submitted, checked and acknowledged by the guard. Submitted answers cannot be handed back to the examinee under any circumstances.
    8. The examinee is only allowed to bring the actual examination questions and the pink copy of his/her answer out of the examination room after the completion of the examination. All other exam papers (used and unused) must be delivered to the guards. If the exam question has been given in the form of a multiple choice test or there has been a separate answer sheet with the questions, the examinee cannot expect to get a copy of his/her answer.
    9. An examinee who becomes ill during the exam must choose whether he or she should submit a medical certificate, submit a blank answer or submit his or her answer for censoring. More information about this can be found on the page about illness and valid absence from the exam.
  • Digital home - examinations
    1. For exams in the digital exam system WISEflow, the exam answer must be written on a computer. Only drawings and some calculations can be made with pen and paper and uploaded as an attachment to the answer. Handwritten exam answers will not normally be censored.
    2. The examinee must have access to a PC and internet when completing the exam. 
    3. The examinee must prior to the exam be acquainted  with the system used for digital examination and make sure to control that the PC and network is working properly.  
    4. The examinee must submit the examination answer within the set deadline for submission in Canvas or in WISEflow and make sure that the correct file is submitted! When submitting the answer in WISEflow it is important that you follow the instructions for correct submission (don't exit when you have up-loaded your answer, but choose submit). Should the  examinee experience any problems with submitting the answer support must be contacted immediately.
    5. The examinee must have his/her mobile available during the WISEflow exam. If an important messages related to the exam is given, this will be notified by SMS.
    6. If an oral exams is conducted digitally, the examinee must prior to the examination control that the microphone, speaker and camera on the examinees  PC are working properly. It is not permitted to record the oral exam, neither by the examinee nor by the faculty.
  • Answering the exam questions
    1. Language - question: The examination questions must be available in both Norwegian Bokmål and Norwegian Nynorsk, if both variants are used by the registered students in the course. In courses offered in Norwegian or English as needed, the exam paper is normally designed in the language in which the course is taught. In a course taught in English, the exam paper is only in English.
    2. Language - answer: The exam answers can be submitted in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English. If the questions are required to be answered in English only, this must be stated in the course description for the course.
    3. Bilingual dictionary: Students are permitted to bring a bilingual dictionary if the examination is held in another language than their first language (mother tongue). The dictionary may not contain any own notes.
